Scan to PDF

Photograph a document, and this tool tidies it into something that reads like a scan: greyed, contrast-boosted, and laid out one page per sheet.

Files are never uploaded

How to use it

Add your photos

Drop pictures of the document above, or click to browse. Shoot from directly above with the page filling the frame — a straight, well-lit photo needs far less correction.

Pick the scan look

Grey with boosted contrast pushes a dull background towards white and the text towards black, which is what most scanners produce. Choose plain greyscale for a gentler result, or keep the original colours for stamps and photos.

Choose a page size

A4 or US Letter if the PDF will be printed, or "Fit to image" so each page is exactly the size of its photo.

Check the order

Photos are placed one per page in the order listed. Drag a row to move a shot earlier or later before converting.

Download the PDF

Press the button and a single PDF is produced with one photo per page. The pictures on your device are left untouched.

Common issues

Fine pale details vanish

Aggressive contrast can erase light pencil marks and faint stamps. Try plain greyscale, which keeps the shading as it is.

Every page is upright except one

Each page follows its own photo, so a sideways shot stays sideways. Rotate it before adding, or fix the result with Rotate PDF.

Colour originals come out black and white

The default look strips colour on purpose, to match a scanner. Choose "Keep original colours" when the colour carries meaning.

The PDF is much larger than expected

Large photos keep their detail. Reduce the maximum image dimension in Advanced options to bring the size down, then run it again.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from JPG to PDF?
JPG to PDF places images on pages exactly as they are. Scan to PDF also processes each photo — greying it and stretching the contrast — so a picture of a page reads more like a scan.
Can I take the photos with a camera here?
Not on this page; the tool works with photos you already have. Use your phone camera normally, then add the pictures here. Everything is processed on your device.
Why does the result look washed out?
Contrast stretching pushes light greys towards white, so if the original was already very pale, faint marks can disappear. Choose plain greyscale instead, which leaves the contrast alone.
Can it straighten a tilted photo?
No. Correction is limited to colour and contrast, so a crooked page stays crooked. Shoot the page square-on for the neatest result.
Will the text be selectable?
No — each page is an image, so there is no text layer. If you need to search or copy the words, run OCR PDF on the result afterwards.
Can I add several pages at once?
Yes. Add as many photos as the document has pages, and each becomes its own page in the finished PDF.
How large will the PDF be?
Roughly as large as the photos you supplied. Lowering the maximum image dimension reduces it at some cost to detail, which is usually a fair trade for a scan.
Is anything uploaded?
No. Photos are read and converted entirely in your browser.
Can I put different documents in one PDF?
You can, but the pages will appear in the order shown. Convert one document at a time if you want each to be its own file.
