Edit PDF Metadata

Change the hidden document information a PDF carries — the title shown in a browser tab, the author, the keywords — or strip it all out before you share the file.

Files are never uploaded

How to use it

Add the PDF

Drop the file above or click to browse. The document is read locally, so nothing is sent anywhere.

Check what it currently holds

Open the file’s properties or document-information panel in your reader to see the existing values. Any field you leave blank here keeps its current value.

Fill in what you want to change

Type a new title, author, subject or comma-separated keywords. Only the boxes you fill in are written; the rest are left alone.

Or remove everything

Tick "Remove all metadata" to clear the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer in one pass — the usual choice before publishing a file you do not want to be traced by.

Save the new copy

Press the button and download the updated file. Your original is untouched on your computer.

Common issues

The reader still shows the old author

Some viewers keep cached document information until the file is reopened, and a few take the title from the file name rather than the metadata. Reopen the saved file before concluding the change failed.

Removing metadata is not redaction

Clearing document information does not remove anything printed on the pages, and does not touch hidden text or annotations. If a name appears in the body or in a comment, it is still there.

Empty boxes leave values unchanged

A blank field is read as "do not change this", not as "clear it". To wipe everything, tick the remove-all option rather than emptying the boxes.

Not every field can be edited here

Creation and modification dates are written by the software that saves the file, and some producers add custom fields of their own. Those are outside the scope of this tool.

Frequently asked questions

What is PDF metadata?
It is document-level information stored inside the file rather than printed on the page: title, author, subject, keywords, the program that created it and the producer. Readers and search engines often display the title in place of the file name.
Will editing metadata change how my pages look?
No. Only the document information dictionary is rewritten. Page content, layout, fonts and images are untouched.
Can metadata be used to identify me?
Yes, sometimes. The author and creator fields are often filled in automatically by the software you used, and the producer can name the application and its version. Removing metadata is a common step before sharing a file publicly.
Why does my reader still show the old title?
Most readers cache document information when a file is opened. Close and reopen the saved file, then look at the properties panel again.
Can I change the creation date?
This tool changes the title, author, subject, keywords, creator and producer. Creation and modification dates are set by the software writing the file, so they are not edited here.
What does the producer field hold?
The name of the library or program that last wrote the PDF. Clearing it removes a small technical fingerprint from the file.
Is there a size limit?
No fixed limit. The file is processed in your browser, so the practical ceiling is the memory your device can give the tab.
Do the changes apply to every page?
Metadata belongs to the whole document rather than to individual pages, so one change applies everywhere.
Is my document uploaded?
No. The file is read and rewritten in your browser. Nothing leaves your device.
