How to use it

Add your PDF

Drop the document onto the box above, or click to browse. A single source file is used at a time, which keeps the page numbers unambiguous.

Find the page numbers

Open the PDF and note the pages you want. Remember that the first sheet in the file is page 1, even if it is a cover and carries no printed number.

List the pages

Type single numbers or ranges separated by commas, for example 2, 5, 9-12. The order you type is the order they appear in the result.

Extract

Press Extract PDF Pages. The pages are copied into a fresh document, and none of the unlisted pages are included.

Download the new PDF

Save the extracted file. Your original document is untouched on disk, so the source stays exactly as it was.

Common issues

Extracting does not shorten the original

The tool builds a new file; it does not edit the source. If you wanted the original document trimmed down, replace it with the extracted version yourself, or use Rotate and Delete Pages.

Confusing printed numbers with sheet order

Some documents number from the cover and some start after it. Page 5 in your list is always the fifth sheet in the file, whatever is printed on it. Check with the document in front of you.

Expecting a merge of two documents

To combine pages from two files, extract from each one first, then run both results through Merge PDF.

A long pause before the first page appears

A three hundred page document has to be parsed before any page can be copied. The progress bar moves once parsing finishes, so an early pause is normal.

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from splitting?
Splitting gives you one file per range. Extracting gives you a single file containing every page you listed, in the order you wrote them.
Can the pages come out in a new order?
Yes. The pages follow the order of your list, so 5, 1, 3 produces a document that opens on page 5 of the original.
Can I extract the same page twice?
Yes. List a number more than once and that page appears more than once in the result.
What if I type a page that does not exist?
The request is rejected with a message naming the page, and nothing is produced. Correct the number and run it again.
Do bookmarks and links survive?
Text, images and layout are preserved. Internal links that pointed to pages you did not extract will no longer lead anywhere, and the outline may refer to missing pages.
Can I mix ranges and single numbers?
Yes. A list such as 1, 4-6, 9 is read as page 1, pages 4 to 6, and page 9.
Is there a limit on how many pages I can extract?
There is no fixed limit, but a very large document takes longer because the whole file is parsed in your browser before the first page is copied.
What about password-protected PDFs?
An encrypted file cannot be read. Remove the password in your PDF viewer, save an unlocked copy, and run that through the tool.
Is anything uploaded?
No. The pages are copied by JavaScript running in your browser.
