Convert PDF to Excel

Get the numbers out of a PDF and into a spreadsheet you can work with. Tables are found from the layout and rebuilt as real Excel grids — not as rows of text you would have to split by hand.

This one tool uploads your file — only with your permission

How to use it

Add the PDF

Drop the document onto the box above, or click to browse. Every page is examined for tables, in the order the pages appear.

Agree to the upload

Like PDF to Word, this tool uses a server. A prompt appears first explaining exactly what happens to the file — nothing leaves your device until you confirm.

Wait while the tables are found

Each page is scanned for rows that line up into the same columns. A table needs at least two rows sharing the same column positions before it is treated as one.

Check the workbook

Each table becomes its own worksheet, named by page and table number so you can match it back to the PDF. The first row is treated as a header and shown in bold.

Download the .xlsx

Save the workbook and open it in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers or LibreOffice. Numbers arrive as numbers, so you can total and chart them straight away.

Common issues

A scan comes back as an error

The tool says plainly when a PDF has no text layer instead of handing you an empty workbook. Run OCR PDF first, then convert the searchable PDF.

Tables held together only by spacing can break

Vertical rules make column edges unambiguous; whitespace alone is a guess. If two columns sit close together, the split may land in the wrong place — check the result before trusting it.

Totals rows are data, not headers

Only the first row of a table is styled as a header. A totals row at the bottom arrives as an ordinary row, which is what you want if you are going to recalculate it.

Two tables on one page become two worksheets

A page with two separate tables produces two worksheets rather than one sheet with a gap. That is usually helpful, but merge them in Excel if you would rather see them together.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?
Yes — this tool uses a server, like PDF to Word. You are asked for permission first and the prompt explains what happens. If you would rather nothing left your device, PDF to Text and PDF to Markdown both run entirely in the browser.
What happens to the file afterwards?
It is held in memory only while the request runs, then discarded. It is never written to disk, never added to a database, and never read by anyone. Nothing is retained.
How does it decide what is a table?
By alignment. If a run of rows is split into the same number of columns at the same horizontal positions, it is a table. That is exactly how a printed table communicates its structure, so it works on invoices, statements, reports and price lists without needing the PDF to declare a table object.
What if my PDF has no tables?
The tool says so by falling back to a plain export: each page becomes one worksheet with the text down a single column. Nothing is lost, and you can see at a glance that the PDF has no table structure to extract.
Why is a column missing or merged?
A table glued together with vertical lines usually comes out cleanly, but one that relies on spacing alone can break if two columns sit very close together or a cell is empty. Widen the source or split the table before converting if the result looks wrong.
Are the numbers stored as numbers?
Yes. Values like 1,240,000 or 12.4% are written as numeric cells so Excel can sum them. Identifiers that merely look numeric — postcodes, employee numbers, anything with a leading zero — are kept as text so the leading zero is not lost.
Can it read a scanned PDF?
No. A scan is a picture of a page with no text layer, so there is nothing to read. Run OCR PDF first to add a searchable layer, then convert the result.
How many worksheets will I get?
One per table found. A five-page report with a table on each page gives you five worksheets, named Page1 Table1, Page2 Table1 and so on.
Is there a file size limit?
Up to 25 MB per document. Larger files should be split first with Split PDF, then converted in parts.
