Convert Word to PDF

Turn a Word document into a PDF you can share or archive. The text stays selectable and searchable, and the whole conversion happens inside your browser — the file is never sent to a server.

Files are never uploaded

How to use it

Add the Word file

Drop your .docx onto the box above, or click to browse. One document is converted at a time so the output stays unambiguous.

Make sure it is a .docx

This tool reads the modern XML-based format used by Word 2007 and later, and by Pages, Google Docs and LibreOffice when they export to Word. A file ending in .doc is the old binary format and must be re-saved as .docx first.

Pick a page size

Choose A4 for most of the world or US Letter if that is what you print on. The default margin of 56 points is roughly two centimetres, close to Word’s normal setting.

Convert and read it through

Press Convert. The document is parsed, then re-laid out page by page. Open the PDF and check that headings, lists and tables landed where you expect.

Download the PDF

Save the finished file. The original Word document is left untouched on your computer, and the PDF can be opened, printed or attached straight away.

Common issues

A .doc file is rejected

Files saved by very old versions of Word use the binary .doc format, which this reader cannot parse. Open the file, choose Save As, and pick Word Document (.docx) — then convert that.

Non-Latin text disappears

Because the PDF is built with a browser-standard Latin font, Chinese, Japanese, Cyrillic, Arabic and similar scripts are dropped. If your document is mainly in one of those languages, export the PDF from Word instead.

The layout is rebuilt, not copied

Expect a tidy, sensible document rather than a pixel-for-pixel replica. Multi-column sections, text wrapped around images and precise line breaks are normalised into a single flowing column.

Charts, text boxes and SmartArt are skipped

Only body text, tables and embedded pictures are read. Objects that float above the text — charts, text boxes, WordArt and SmartArt diagrams — have no equivalent here and will not appear in the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my document uploaded?
No. The .docx file is read and converted inside your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, so a contract, a report or a letter never leaves your device.
Which Word formats can it read?
The .docx format — the XML-based one used since Word 2007, and what Google Docs, Pages and LibreOffice produce when they export to Word. The older .doc binary format is not supported; open it in Word and save as .docx first.
Will the PDF be selectable and searchable?
Yes. The PDF contains real text drawn with a standard font, not a picture of the page, so you can select, copy, search and let a screen reader read it.
Will it look exactly like the original in Word?
No, and it does not claim to. Word documents are laid out by Word’s own engine. This tool rebuilds the content — headings, paragraphs, lists, tables and images — using a clean, readable layout. Text is preserved faithfully; fine spacing, columns and floating shapes are not reproduced identically.
What happens to the fonts in my document?
The output uses the built-in Helvetica family, so the PDF is small and needs no embedded font file. Words are re-rendered in that font: bold headings stay bold, but your original typeface is not carried over.
Do tables and images come across?
Yes, both are carried over. A table becomes a real table in the PDF with its header row repeated if it runs onto another page, and embedded PNG or JPEG images are placed in reading order at a size that fits the page.
Some characters are missing from my PDF — why?
This tool uses a standard font that covers the Latin alphabet and Western European accents only. Characters outside that range — Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic and emoji — cannot be drawn and are removed. For those languages a PDF produced by Word itself is the right tool.
Are headers, footers and page numbers kept?
No. Word’s header and footer area is not part of the body content that is read, so anything that appears only there is not carried into the PDF. Your content is still there — only if it lived solely in a header or footer would it be missing.
Can I convert several documents at once?
Not in one go. The tool handles one .docx at a time, which keeps the download name and the page numbering clear. Convert the next file the same way when you are ready.
