Compress Image
Reduce the size of a photo or graphic by re-encoding it at a quality and a maximum dimension you control — with a before/after size readout so you can see the result.

How to use it
Add your images
Drop one or more photos, or click to browse. Mixed formats are fine, so JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC can all go into the same batch.
Choose an output format
JPG is usually the smallest for photographs, WebP is smaller still in most browsers, and PNG stays lossless for screenshots and graphics.
Set the maximum dimension
This is the long edge of the result in pixels and is the single biggest lever on file size. 1920 is a good web default; 0 keeps the original dimensions.
Slide the quality
Quality applies only to the lossy formats. 0.7 is a sensible starting point for photos; go lower for a smaller file or higher to protect detail.
Compress and compare
The card reports the total before and after size. If the result is too aggressive or not small enough, adjust a setting and run it again.
Common issues
A screenshot gets blurry when saved as JPG
Screenshots are full of hard edges and flat colour, which is exactly what JPG handles badly. Use PNG for anything containing text or sharp lines and keep JPG for photographs.
A PNG comes out larger than the original
Re-encoding a PNG rarely helps, because it is already lossless. If a PNG has to be smaller, accept JPG or WebP and the loss of transparency that comes with them.
Setting a large maximum dimension does nothing
If the value is larger than the original image, the result simply keeps the original size. Only set a maximum that is smaller than the source if you want a real reduction.
A batch of a hundred photos takes a while
Every image is decoded and re-encoded in turn on your device, with progress shown per file. Splitting a very large batch into smaller groups keeps the tab responsive.
